On-Line Support Groups

Group Sessions

Group therapy is one of the most essential and powerful tools that a therapist can use. This form of psychotherapy gathers typically a small group of individuals ( starting from 6 to 12), that meet regularly with a trained therapist to discuss and work through their psychological concerns.

It provides a supportive and confidential environment where members can share their experiences, thoughts, and emotions with others who may be dealing with similar issues.

Some important benefits that groups offer:

  1. Social Support: a sense of belonging and understanding as individuals realize they are not alone in their struggles. Interacting with others who are going through similar experiences can provide comfort and reduce feelings of isolation.
  2. Normalization: participants often find relief in realizing that their experiences and emotions are common among others in the group. This normalization can reduce feelings of shame or stigma associated with their issues.
  3. Feedback and Perspective: group members can offer each other feedback, different perspectives, and insights based on their own experiences. This can help individuals gain new insights into their own thoughts and behaviors.
  4. Skill Development: the therapist helps the individual to incorporate specific therapeutic techniques or exercises aimed at developing coping skills, communication skills, and problem-solving strategies.
  5. Increased Self-awareness: through interactions with others and feedback from the therapist, individuals in group therapy can gain a deeper understanding of themselves, their patterns of behavior, and their relationships with others.
  6. Emotional Expression: group therapy provides a safe space for members to express their emotions openly and honestly, which can be cathartic and therapeutic.
  7. Peer Learning and Role Modeling: seeing others make progress or overcome similar challenges can inspire hope and motivation for individuals in the group. Positive role models within the group demonstrate effective coping mechanisms and strategies for managing difficulties.
  8. Cost-Effective: group therapy is often more cost-effective than individual therapy since the therapist’s time is divided among multiple participants.
